As part of their Campus Spotlight Newsletter project, 5th graders interviewed staff and faculty members across campus about their roles, their purpose, and what their work within our school community means to them. This activity connects to the class reading of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin, which draws on Chinese mythology and invites readers to consider big questions about fortune, happiness, purpose, and the roles we play in the world around us. This activity highlights our belief that learning extends beyond the classroom and invites learners to see themselves as active members of a larger community. By listening to the stories and perspectives of others, our learners are practicing curiosity, empathy, communication, and the idea that everyone’s work and purpose is valuable.Read More -
Growing Skills in Unexpected Ways
Read MoreOur Kindergarten students are developing language skills in oh so many different ways. Imaginative and guided play support reading and writing skills; when acting out a doctor’s visit or taking an imaginary 20-hour road trip to the desert, kindergarteners are creating characters, settings, and a sequence of events. These growing skills of organizing ideas and telling a story with a beginning, middle, and end will assist with reading comprehension and writing in the years ahead.Kindergartners are also expanding descriptive language by looking at objects found in nature through a microscope. Students share what they see, using rich words and making comparisons like “the bumpy texture looks like a snake skin” or “it looks like corn on the cob.” A favorite description when peering at objects has been a joyous exclamation of “this is amazing!” -
Skill Building in PE
Read MoreRecent Physical Education classes have included activities that emphasize strategy, cooperation, and teamwork. For example, seconder graders built “Hula Huts,” while fourth and fifth graders played the game “Cross the River.” Although these exercises differ, both fostered students communicating effectively, working together, and being supportive teammates working toward a common goal. These skills extend well beyond Physical Education, as students navigate challenges and learn the value of being a positive and dependable teammate. -
Using Their Voices
Read MoreStudents in Music class have been working on vocal exploration and steady beat. Pre-K students practiced using their Four Voices (speaking, whispering, shouting, and singing) with the help of some finger puppets. Fourth and fifth graders, on the other hand, sang a Halloween song that helped practice playing a chordal steady beat on xylophones and included a spooky “ooooh” melody to practice their singing voices. -
4th Grade Curricular Connections
One of the beginning of year rituals in 4th grade is exploring the history of Plymouth through campus walks. One of the favorite spots for fourth graders to explore is the graveyard, where students have noticed and discussed the gravestones and those who are buried beneath them. Combining history with math and art, students created crayon rubbings of the names and years imprinted on gravestones, which they will discuss further as a group and display in the Fourth Grade classroom windows.Read More

Meeting for Worship
We invite families to join us in the Meetinghouse for this central time in our week. Students in grades 1-5 come to the Meetinghouse each week; Pre-k and Kindergarten students join later in the year after having Meeting in their classes for a period of time.Location: Meeting House -
Fall Fix Up (& Arboretum Tree Planting) & Frolic
9am - 12pm -- Lend a hand to help create the Plymouth Friends Arboretum on the PMFS campus. Activities suitable for all ages will include planting trees and perennials and maybe even working in a sandbox and mud kitchen
12-2pm -- Lunch on Your Own (or bring a picnic)
2-3:30pm -- Hoedown with Maddy & Friends
