Second Grade Assistant Teacher

Immediate Opening: Assistant Teacher– 2nd Grade, 2025-2026 school year
Full-Time: The position includes five days a week in the classroom (7:45 am-3:15 pm), as well as recess duties and additional time outside of this schedule for field trips, parent teacher conferences, and full professional development days.
Position Description: Assistant teachers are a vital part of the Plymouth Meeting Friends School faculty. They serve as an important part of a two-person teaching team and support the lead teacher in all academic endeavors. At PMFS, assistant teachers work directly with students in all subject areas. They collaborate with lead teachers to deliver a highly interactive, integrated program; lead lessons and literature groups; craft lesson plans and implement curriculum; and devise and administer formal and informal assessments.
Assistant teachers co-lead learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom; and they support an evolving social and experiential academic curriculum. They regularly confer with students about academic and social concerns.
The ideal candidate demonstrates eagerness and enthusiasm for elementary school aged students and has experience supporting children with tools for effective communication and conflict resolution. Experience with readers’ and writers’ workshop and inquiry based approaches to learning, while supporting diverse learning styles is essential. PMFS Assistant Teachers are well versed in current research, trends, and best practices in elementary education and are committed to working in a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community.
Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in elementary education, early childhood education or special education. Applicants are expected to have at least one year of professional teaching experience. Familiarity with the usage and integration of technology is required. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education—in philosophy and teaching practice-- is expected.
